Review Quality Control v2: the auditor sees the evidence the panel saw, scores whether each slot used it, and the scale is re-anchored
Browse filesNew dimension evidence_use (public): the RQC prompt now carries an
EVIDENCE_SUPPLIED block built from the citation verification JSON (the
counts and every DOI MISMATCH / DOI DEAD / UNVERIFIABLE / text-matched
line) and the code package digest (the shipped code's definitions and the
lines defining the paper's constructs), blinded with the panel's
compaction spans. A slot that says "citations verified" against mismatch
or dead lines, or "implements the measure as described" when the digest
shows another definition, scores 1 and trips the flag.
The scale is re-anchored: 5 exemplary, 4 clean, 3 adequate with gaps, 2 a
defect the curator must see, 1 fatal. Before, 83 of the 90 scored slots on
record were 5s and no audit had ever flagged.
Calibrated against earlier review records (written to an audit folder, never
the live record): reviews that had called dead or mismatched references
clean now score low on evidence_use and trip the flag.
Two defects found by the calibration and fixed here: the panel review was
cut at 40K chars before the auditor read it, so the last slot of every
10-slot audit on record was never audited ("Reviewer 10 truncated" was the
auditor reading its own input) -- the cap is 120K; and the audit's
subprocess timeout (7 min) was too short for the larger prompt -- 15 min,
one audit per paper.
Public rendering: Evidence Use is the fifth scholarly dimension (records
audited before 2026-10-01 carry four); injection_indicators stays
internal. The rubric, the two author letters that describe the audit, and
the site's FAQ and glossary name the new dimension.

UNVERIFIABLE line, and the code package digest's definitions of the paper's

# ICSAC Review Quality Control Rubric
|
| 2 |
|
| 3 |
+
Review Quality Control (RQC) is an integrity audit of the panel's review output, not a re-review of the submission. It reads the complete multi-slot panel output for a single submission, together with the evidence the panel was given (the citation verification results and the code package digest), and scores each reviewer slot independently. Its purpose is to detect panel drift, justification/score mismatch, reviews that ignore or contradict the supplied evidence, and prompt-injection subversion before the human accept/decline click.
|
| 4 |
|
| 5 |
RQC is **flag-only**. It never gates acceptance. `review_quality_control_flag: true` surfaces to the curator's configured alert channel so the human curator can look before deciding. The watcher proceeds regardless.
|
| 6 |
|
|
|
|
| 8 |
|
| 9 |
RQC produces two separate renderings of the same audit pass. This is deliberate.
|
| 10 |
|
| 11 |
+
**Internal (full fidelity).** Written to `reviews/<record_id>_review_quality_control.md`. Contains all six dimensions including `injection_indicators`, full scores, full justifications, full per-slot breakdown, full flag logic. This is what drives the curator's configured alert channel and what the curator reads before accept/decline.
|
| 12 |
|
| 13 |
+
**Public (redacted).** Written to `src/data/public-reviews/<record_id>_review_quality_control.{md,html}` in the website repo by the redaction. Shows the five scholarly dimensions only: `rubric_adherence`, `internal_consistency`, `specificity`, `tone`, `evidence_use`. The `injection_indicators` dimension is stripped entirely β never rendered, never referenced, never implied.
|
| 14 |
|
| 15 |
+
Why: the five scholarly dimensions are legitimate transparency β readers want evidence the panel was rigorous and not rubber-stamped. They are not exploitable; knowing the panel audits internal consistency does not help attack the system. `injection_indicators` is different β publishing it tells prompt-injection attackers exactly what signal to avoid triggering. Silence on that specific dimension is defense-in-depth layered behind the deterministic primary defenses (`--tools ""`, defensive preamble, redaction grep-gate) documented in the repo's security posture.
|
| 16 |
|
| 17 |
## Dimensions
|
| 18 |
|
| 19 |
+
Each reviewer slot is referenced by position ("Reviewer 1"..N), never by model or vendor. Each slot is scored 1-5 on the dimensions below. The scale: **5 is exemplary** (nothing to fault, and the justifications could not be pasted onto another paper), **4 is clean**, **3 is adequate with gaps**, **2 is a defect the curator must see**, **1 is fatal**. A well-formed review earns a 4; 5 is reserved for slots that cite the evidence block and the manuscript precisely on every dimension (re-anchored 2026-10-01: before, 5 was the default for any well-formed review, and 83 of 90 scored slots were 5s). When writing justifications, refer to rubrics by their prose names (the calibration rubric, the tone rubric, the methodology rubric, the scope rubric, the AI provenance rubric, the audit rubric) β never by filename.

### 5. evidence_use (public)
|
| 71 |
+
|
| 72 |
+
The panel is given, above the manuscript, the citation verification block (every reference marked CONFIRMED, MATCHED, DOI MISMATCH, DOI DEAD or UNVERIFIABLE, with the reason) and the code package digest (the shipped code's file list, definitions and the lines defining the paper's named constructs). The auditor is given the same, condensed. Did the slot act on it?
|
| 73 |
+
|
| 74 |
+
- **5** β Every claim the slot makes about references or code is anchored in the block: mismatched and dead DOIs are named under citation integrity; claims about what the code computes cite a file and line from the digest; anything the block cannot support is called unverified.
|
| 75 |
+
- **4** β Uses the block where it matters and contradicts nothing in it; one claim about references or code is loose.
|
| 76 |
+
- **3** β Uses part of the block: names the DOI findings but calls the analysis "reproducible" without the digest, or the reverse.
|
| 77 |
+
- **2** β Ignores the block: scores citation integrity or methodological transparency as if no verification existed.
|
| 78 |
+
- **1** β Contradicts the block: "citations verified" against DOI MISMATCH or DOI DEAD lines; "implements the measure as described" when the digest shows a different definition; cites the digest for something it does not contain.
|
| 79 |
+
|
| 80 |
+
When the block says no evidence was supplied (no verification, no digest), score on whether the slot avoided asserting verification it could not have performed.
|
| 81 |
+
|
| 82 |
+
This dimension exists because a panel can call the references clean and the analysis reproducible while the evidence it was given says otherwise, and an audit that reads only the reviews cannot notice. The auditor now sees what the panel saw.
